Sponsored stories are selected automatically when you're about to place your ad. In the event that you spend $20/day on your ad, Facebook also runs their sponsored on that $20/day pay and charges you when someone taps on their sponsored story(not your main ad). At the end of the day, you may have $10/day going to Facebook sponsored story and $10/day going to your normal ad.

Good news here is that it can also increase your chances of getting more page likes since it show up on your audience news feed. You can also decline the sponsored story if you want to(don't find it necessary).
